Why do metallurgical cast steel rollers undergo high-temperature diffusion treatment?

During the solidification of cast steel rollers, the presence of dendritic crystals can cause intergranular segregation of alloy components. This segregation is caused by the inability to achieve sequential solidification of the upper and lower layers, inner and outer layers of the roller body during the solidification process. The larger the diameter of the roller body, the longer the length of the roller body, and the greater the solidification temperature gradient, resulting in more severe alloy solidification segregation. With the increase of alloy content in alloy cast steel rollers, the segregation index generated during solidification increases, resulting in a greater degree of compositional non-uniformity. Therefore, in order to fully diffuse the atoms of alloy elements and obtain a homogeneous austenitic structure, it is necessary to heat the high alloy cast steel roller to a temperature above Ac3 of 150-250 ℃ for a relative time of insulation. This heat treatment method is called high-temperature diffusion treatment.
